My Life, Being Autistic
Hey you listener's,
Ever feel like the world is spinning & you can't control the spin but all you can do is throw what looks like a tantrum but really is you trying to tell others around you that your overwhelmed. Well that was basically my childhood. The one person that really got me was my mom. Ever since I was diagnosed with autism she went way beyond what anyone parent I've know would've done. She took courses & every class on how to raise a child with Autism. She's my role model. She's what made me, Well ME! What I've achieved is because she let me take control on everything I did. Knowing she was there beside me if I needed help I could ask for it. Though my mom can contest it was not easy to raise me. There were times I would push the boundaries. Yet, In the end I don't think I could be who I am with out her.
When I was way young Mom worked at the airport, she was in charge of overseeing 25 shops. You know the gift shops you see as your waiting for your flights. Those she would do the buying & overseeing. Her boss didn't like children & would keep her VERY busy. Would hardly ever let my mom take time off and when she would take time off to raise me & to take me to doctor visits or other appointments, Her boss was not impressed nor happy with her. When school would have Pro-D-days. I couldn't stay home or go to my dads work at the bottling factory for safety reason. I'd have to go to moms office & stay very quiet so her boss wouldn't know I was there. It got little boring just being there as mom worked. So one of her coworkers would often take me to the airport gift shops. There was one that had kids toys that I could play with. If you ever been to Vancouver International Airport, you may have seen a Light Blonde haired girl with glasses running around that most likely would have been me.. lol.. My Favorite thing I loved was watching the Airplanes taking off & landing. I always like to say don't ever take it for granted when your boss lets you bring your children to work.
When my mom & dad had to work late. My sister would look after me. She is what I call "Normal". She has no Disability. She is also 8 years older, its just us 2 girls. though my sister's BFF was always hanging around. So she become part of the family too. We've sorta adopted her to our Family. So really I have 2 awesome sisters. One of them became an officer of the law. Which makes me very proud of what she does. The other sister Supports me, pretty much raised me when my parents were at work. She became a 2nd mom to me.
Throughout my life I've learned to take things as they come & don't stress the hard stuff as someone else could be dealing with harder things then you.
So, Till next time,
xoxo Lyssie
